When training at the gym using the fitness equipment such as the treadmill or when using the weights, it’s ideal to wear a top that is up to the occasion – a top which is light, durable and unrestricted for the workout ahead.
In the second of my Bad Girl fitness clothing reviews, I’ll be taking a look at such a product, the new Bad Girl BG Ladies Racer Vest Top.
Bad Girl BG Ladies Racer Vest Top Design
For their latest fitness clothing range, Bad Girl have adopted a love of marl. This is no bad thing as marl can make a plain boring top into something much more visually pleasing and that’s what they have done with the Racer Vest Top. The vest top is pink marl trimmed with grey marl on the shoulder straps and neck with reinforced stitching at prone stress points. The top features a low cut rounded V neck and a racer back.
The new fitness range is split into two collections: Bad Girl and BG. Bad Girl appears to be more decorative, with large Bad Girl script adorning the garments, whereas BG opts for a subtle circular BG logo, which is what the Bad Girl BG Vest Top is decorated with. The BG logo is printed in a metallic silver on the left breast and also on the inside of the neck above the printed washing instructions. On the reverse side of the neck is the same metallic print, this time bearing Bad Girl script just to reinforce the parent brand of the collection.
Fit and Feel
The Bad Girl BG Racer Vest Top is a 100% polyester, ultra soft and very stretchy vest top. The lightweight design of the top is great for training in as it feels like you’re hardly wearing anything. The soft fabric is gentle against the skin and does not chafe during exercise.
I chose the medium vest top as this is what is recommended for size 10-12 ladies. I usually wear a 12 (my chest is 34″) but this top seems a little large for me, although it could be just the style of the top. The wide, low cut neck comes quite low, exposing the bra underneath, a bit like a stringer vest. This probably won’t look as severe on someone with a bigger bust but looking at the model sporting the pink top on Bad Girl’s website, it too comes low on her. If I lie the vest top flat, the neck is level with the arm holes so the style is purposely made to hang lower. Personally I prefer vest tops that are tighter and have a higher cut neck, so it all depends on your prefered fit as you may wish to opt for a smaller size than what you normally wear.

Like all the garments in the new Bad Girl range, the washing instructions are printed on the inside of the neck, and for this top it is advised to machine wash at 30 degrees with a low tumble dry. I always opt to hang dry on the line or on the maiden, so you could do that as well. Do not try to iron this top though.
Wearing The Vest Top
When doing ju-jitsu or exercising in general, I never like to wear anything that’s thick or heavy, so the Bad Girl BG Racer Vest Top is ideal being such a lightweight and soft fabric. Whilst doing an intense warm up, which included jogging, situps, crunches, press ups and squats, the Bad Girl BG Vest Top kept my top half cool despite me working up quite a sweat. The vest top almost feels like it is of the moisture wicking variety though the top is a loose fit rather than skin tight like a rashguard. The breathability of the fabric is fantastic and kept my temperature at a comfortable level.
When your training or lifting weights, it’s important to have full freedom to move your arms and body. The cut of the vest top, with its racer back, makes this an unrestrictive garment, ideal to wear when jogging, exercising, dance class, aerobics or whatever type of training you’re into.
Overall Opinion
The Bad Girl BG Racer Vest Top is a simple yet great looking vest top with a pink and grey colour scheme that really works well. The breathable fabric makes it a comfortable wear for the gym, jogging or exercising, keeping you cool while you train. A matching sports bra in pink or grey might be advisable due to the low cut top if you really want to colour coordinate. The medium vest top isn’t that flattering on my smaller frame but it may fit differently depending on your shape and bust size. I think a size small would suit me better.
