Need a fast way to consume protein but don’t want to lug around whey protein powders and shakers? Then protein bars might just be for you, especially if you’re looking to consume protein after hitting the gym or fancy a sweet treat during your lunch at work.

In this review I’ll be taking a look at the Multipower 50% Protein Bar XXL in both Toffee Almond and Chocolate Banana Crisp flavour.

Multipower 50% Protein Bar XXL

Measuring at 2 inches in width, 5 inches in length and with a depth of 0.5 inch, the Multipower 50% Protein Bar XXL is a handy alternative to those confectionary chocolates you can find on the shelf of every supermarket and corner shop and where you might need a couple of chocolate bars to fill you up, just one of these Multipower bars will do the trick.

The 50% Protein Bar is chock full of protein and you can taste it too. I often find that protein bars fall into two camps: they either taste of protein or don’t. This particular bar tastes almost exactly like a Multipower Protein shake. I prefer bars that taste more akin to a flapjack or chocolate bar, truth be told, with more authentic flavours but this is still an okay bar to eat, even if it does taste like a protein shake packaged into a chocolate bar.

Both flavours of bar are coated in chocolate. The Toffee Almond flavour smells like a protein shake does and tastes like it too. The bars’ tan brown centre are soft and chewy with no rough or crunchy texture. The Toffee Almond tastes a bit of toffee but it’s not overpowering. The Chocolate Banana Crisp, however, only tastes of chocolate when you first bite into it but then the banana taste cuts straight through. It’s pleasant enough and doesn’t really taste like a protein shake.

By the time you’ve finished a full bar, you’ll find yourself very full so it’s ideal to fill a gap straight after exercise, be it martial arts or weightlifting or a snack to consume between meals.

Overall Thoughts

The Multipower 50% Protein Bars give a whopping dose of protein in a handy bar which will more than fill you up on your way home from the gym. The fact that it also contains slow digestive proteins means its great for trickling the amino acids to your muscles over a length of time whilst the fast and medium digestive proteins promote muscle growth and repair.

The taste could be better, and in that respect I prefer the taste of Multipower’s Power Pack, but if taste isn’t that big an issue and you’re just looking to get as much out of a protein chocolate bar as possible then Multipower 50% Protein Bar XXL could be for you.
