A couple of weeks ago I reviewed the delicious MyProtein Total Nutri-Greens<\/strong> supplement in tropical flavour<\/a> for Shop4 Martial Arts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

MyProtein Total Nutri-Greens<\/strong><\/a> is a wonderful supplement for those that do not get their 5 a day – that’s five portions of fruit or vegetables. I’m not on a strict or fitness diet, I eat well, but not too healthily, and therefore only get around 3 of my fruits or veg portions a day. Total Nutri-Greens contains a unique blend of 22 superfoods that include fruit and vegetable extracts and algae.<\/p>\n

This week I’ve decided to give my verdict on the unflavoured variant of MyProtein Total Nutri-Greens to see how it compares with its flavoured counterpart.<\/p>\n

Taste Test 1  – Unflavoured Total Nutri-Greens with Water<\/h4>\n

As I commented on the Tropical review, MyProtein Total Nutrigreens is powder pea green in colour but as soon as you mix a teaspoon (7.5g) of the powder with 300ml water, it turns moss green and looks rather swampy. The aroma of the unflavoured is a touch stronger than its flavoured counterpart, and you can really smell its earthy, green flavours.<\/p>\n

Quite optimistic of what taste might be in store, I took a gulp… Yes, it tastes just how it looks! Although it mixes quite well, even if you need to keep a stirrer or spoon with you to restir after the powder eventually settles, the unflavoured taste is an acquired one.<\/p>\n

Whoever decides upon mixing unflavoured with water needs to be a lover of greens and vegetables, and even then you may struggle. Looking through the glass, the mixture looks quite mossy and this is reflected in the taste.<\/p>\n

As someone who has quite a sweet tooth, I struggled to finish the Total Nutri-Greens and decided that a different course of action was necessary.<\/p>\n

Taste Test 2 – Unflavoured Total Nutri-Greens with Ribena Cordial<\/h4>\n

I’m not a lover of tap water… in our household anyways. More than often, I’ll mix a glass of water with Ribena blackcurrent cordial<\/strong> to give a bit of flavour to my morning beverage. Reading how MyProtein Total Nutri-Greens<\/strong> could be mixed with juice, I added a teaspoon of Total Nutri-Greens to my glass of Ribena cordial and mixed. The powder mixed very well, turning the drink from a purple colour to dark brown, whilst retaining the mossy-looking, bitty texture which Nutri-Greens has.<\/p>\n

The Total Nuri-Greens x Ribena<\/strong> combo smelt much better – still earthy, but not as uber-natural as its standard unflavoured H2O incarnation.<\/p>\n

Now for the all important taste.  The first flavour that hits you in the Total Nuri-Greens x Ribena combo is that of the blackcurrent with hints of Nutri-Greens. The natural earthy flavour slips through mid-way, until the final hit of blackcurrent takes over. It really tastes quite delicious, on a par with the Tropical flavoured Total Nutri-Greens<\/a>, and is thankfully a fantastic combination of both my usual drink but with all the added goodness and nutrients of the 22 superfoods contained in the Total Nutri-Greens supplement.<\/p>\n

Effects of MyProtein Total Nutri-Greens<\/h4>\n

In my last review, I noted how I’d seen an improvement in my asthma, which I suffer from mildly but is triggered by intense bursts of exercise. Training in Ju-Jitsu, I usually start to become breathless and wheezey during the warmup, with running and grappling incorporated into the inital part of the lesson. Taking Nutri-Greens for a week seemed to have a positive reaction with my body, not just in terms of feeling extra springy and rather alert, but also the fact that I didn’t need my inhaler for once! Having taken the unflavoured MyProtein Total Nutri-Greens for the last couple of week, I can report my further findings and experiences. Yesterday I had my hardest challenge yet – being attacked by multiple armed opponents one after another and having to defend for 1mins and 30secs. The last time I did something similar to this was around 8 months ago and I felt I was on the verge of having an asthma attack back then. During my experience yesterday, I began to flag and grow tired by the end of the round, and was out of breathe by the time it had finished, but I didn’t need my inhaler, nor were I wheezing or suffering from asthma. The shortness of breathe seemed natural, like the kind someone without asthma would experience after a run or indeed a round of intense training like I’d just done. I believe that this product is a saviour for asthma sufferers like myself and I will continue to take this supplement, as not only is it making me feel better, but it also has a positive effect on my physical health. I’m actually due a trip to my asthma nurse in a fortnight so I look forward to comparing my peak flow results to last year and also discussing the positive effects of MyProtein Total Nutri-Greens.<\/p>\n

Ingredients<\/h4>\n

The unflavoured MyProtein Total Nutri-Greens<\/strong> officially contain Soy Lecithin, Spirulina, Apple Fibre Powder, Barley Grass Powder, Wheat Grass Powder, Oat Fibre Powder, Pomegranite Seed, Alfalfa Grass powder, Chlorella Broken Cell Wall, Soy Sprout Powder, Acerola Berry, Red Beet Root Powder, Siberian Ginseng, Carrot Powder, Tomato Juice, Astragalus Root Powder, Spinach Leaf, Brocolli Powder, Gingko Biloba, Green Tea Leaf, Grape Seed, Elderberry Whole Fruit Powder and Blueberry Whole Fruit Powder. Tropical flavour contains, in addition to above ingredients,  Citric Acid, Beta Carotene and Sweetener (Sucralose), which provides the tropical taste to the supplement powder.<\/p>\n

The recommended intake  of unflavoured is 7.5 grams of the Total Nutri-Greens powder mixed with 250ml-300ml of water, juice or protein drink, to be taken, at most, twice daily. The MyProtein website even suggests that the powder can be sprinkled onto your food.<\/p>\n

As long as you find the right juice or protein shake to mix it with, unflavoured MyProtein Total Nutri-Greens<\/strong> tastes just as good as the sweetened tropical flavour, and is the ideal supplement for anyone lacking in fruit or vegetables in their diet and are looking for an extra boost.<\/p>\n
