Grappling: Heel Hooks From Guard

They might be frowned upon in competition, and in many cases ILLEGAL within comps adhering to IBJJF rules, but amongst the grappling community, particularly the catch wrestling crowd, heel hooks are a firm favourite that can often end a match in seconds once the position is secure.

In this video, we see Mel Corrigan of MCKG in Wigan demonstrate three various ways of securing the heel hook; two from being in your opponents guard and one from when you’re on the bottom with your partner in guard.

Commentary is provided by Sensei Erik Paulson with Mel Corrigan, a certified instructor under Erik in his Combat Submission Wrestling, performing the heel hooks on his student.
